Today we speak with Aaron Sturges, who runs Sturges Orchards and Farm Market.
I have a degree in horticulture from Penn State, and I run a 65-acre fruit and vegetable first-generation family farm since 1989. We are based out of Fombell, PA (3 miles west of Zelienople). We specialize in apples, peaches, plums, Asian pears, and cherries. We also produce our own cider and hard cider.
Each year, I grow 26 acres of apples. Every apple you eat from our stand is from a tree grown by me. I have French and English varieties which are not available anywhere else!
I work with my son and daughter, who you will sometimes see helping at the markets. We’ve been part of the Bellevue Farmers market for several years – I really love the family atmosphere at the Market.
