Scholarship FAQ

  1. What is the DEI Award and Scholarship?
    • The DEI Award is Bona Fide Bellevue’s effort to support graduating seniors living in the Northgate School District who are aware of, or are engaged in, the times in which they live. This award is designed to give all students a voice to express how they are impacted by, or how they themselves impact, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  2. Who is eligible for this award?
    • Any student graduating from high school in 2021 who lives in the Northgate School District and is continuing their education may apply. Post-secondary school includes college, university, technical, trade, etc.
  3. When can I apply?
    • Completed applications are due by Noon on Friday, July 23rd, 2021.

  5. Who will be evaluating the applications?
    • A special committee of Bona Fide Bellevue Board members will review all applications and the top submissions will go to the full Board for final selection. The applications will be reviewed with no names attached. Only the Board Chair will know who the applicants are. All applications will be kept in confidence.
  6. How will the application essay be evaluated?
    • The award decisions will be made based on how clearly your ideas are expressed and how you communicate your lived and learned experiences and intentions to advance DEI.
  7. When will I find out if I was awarded one of the scholarships?
    • We hope to have selections made by August 16th, 2021, but that may change based on the number of applications received. We’ll notify you by email if you have been selected for one of the awards and we’ll make announcements via Bona Fide Bellevue’s website and social media, The Citizen, and other outlets. We’ll discuss with you in that email photo and video options to go along with the announcement.
  8. What is the amount of the scholarship?
    • We have $1000 set aside for this year’s scholarship and have chosen to offer it as two $500 awards. We would discuss with you to whom to make the check out. The scholarship checks will be mailed within two weeks of our final selection of awardees.
  9. Will my essay be made available to the public?
    • We will keep all applications and essays confidential. If we would like to use your essay for any type of outreach or community engagement, we’ll talk it over with you and ask for your written permission.
