Today we meet with Mike and Alicia from Rootspring Farm.
Our farm is located in South Bend, Armstrong County about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The farm sits on 75 acres of fields, pasture, and forest. This is our first year farming. We bought this farm in November 2020 after several years of searching. For this first year, we’ve converted a portion of old pasture to our cut flower field with goals of expanding in the coming years. In addition to flowers, we raise chickens (for eggs) and dairy goats. Prior to settling on our farm, we lived in Pittsburgh for 15 years where we honed our craft growing flowers, vegetables and raising chickens in much smaller spaces. The farm is run by the two of us with some help from our kids, friends, and family.
We’ll be offering seasonal cut flowers in mixed bouquets and single variety bunches. The season will start with summer favorites, like sunflowers and zinnias. We’ll be announcing new varieties as they’re ready to harvest on our social media and website each week.
This is our first year at the Bellevue Farmers Market. We’re looking forward to joining this market that we’ve heard so many great things about and to bringing our flowers to Bellevue and the surrounding communities.
We’ll be offering market pre-orders online throughout the season. We’re also offering a small flower CSA this year running 8-weeks starting in mid-July. Visit rootspringfarm.com
