Today we learn about the North Hills Community Outreach.

Following the community coming together to help victims of a flood in 1986, a group of people recognized basic needs not being met. NHCO was born of people helping people. We served 13% of Bellevue’s population last year (531 total households in Bellevue).

Today we have offices in Avalon, Millvale, Allison Park, McKees Rocks, and Lighthouse Point.

We have an awesome team of over 30 staff. Last year we provided 30,000 total services to 3,500 total clients in 40 zip codes and 50 communities. Our services include food pantries in Allison Park, Millvale, and Bellevue; transportation assistance; employment services; educational assistance; and help with utilities and emergencies. In addition, Our community garden has been coming along for several years. The Rosalinda Sauro Sirianni Garden is a volunteer, community-supported organic garden. In 2020 we served 1,500 families, and have harvested 45,000 pounds of produce in the past 10 years.

This is our second year at the Bellevue Farmers Market. Service staff from the Avalon Office joined the market last year to raise awareness of the services available to the community. We love the great sense of community – especially after last year. It’s great to see people laughing, smiling, kids playing, and small businesses getting support. For the market, we alternate between our garden staff and service staff. Garden Coordinator – Maddie Sheinfeld. Service coordinator – Angie Collins. Development Manager – Alyssa Crawford. Pathways Team Leader – Abby Kelly
